About Me

My photo
My name is Samantha, Sammy to many of my family, Sam to my friends. My blog describes the journey I have undertaken so far and the journey I continue to make having been diagnosed with Follicular Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Stage 4 in December 2009. With the exception of surgery at point of diagnosis I have been actively monitored under a "watch and wait" approach and achieved 5 years without treatment and monitoring only last December. My prognosis is approximately 10 years but for every year we watched and waited I have felt positive that this would be extending that prognosis. I am very happily married to Roy and celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary last October and we have a beautiful 9-year old son Callum. My Step-Daughter, 20-year old Hayley who lived with us is now at University. Our house is awash with my beloved pets, our 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, "Amber" and "Saffy", "Caboodle" the cat and "Elliott" the Rex rabbit. The opinions on this blog are my own and based on my personal experience.

Things to Do Before I Die - The "Bucket List"

There has been much publicity lately regarding bucket lists - 'things to do before you die'. The awe inspiring 16-year old Alice Pyne, who's blog and bucket list made it big on Twitter (and good for her, she's an amazing courageous girl), and of course The Sky1 series "An Idiot Abroad" which I personally watched avidly and which brought many a tear to my ear as I rolled around in laughter at the goals Ricky and Stephen put poor Carl through.

So here's mine - it's a 'work in progress' but I have decided it is time I had some "me" goals, so this is my starter for ten and in no particular order.

1. Renew my wedding vows with my amazing husband
2. See the Northern Lights from Swedish Lapland spending 1 night at the Ice Hotel
3. Watch my Son swim with dolphins (I have done it and I would love to see him experience them too)
4. Firewalk*
5. Sky dive*
6. Wing-walk* (* would have to be in aid of charity)
6. Fly First Class
7. Go on an authentic overnight paranormal investigation with a reputable Paranormal Investigator / Team
8. Pay off our Mortgage
9. Work for a Cancer Charity or Hospice
10. Learn to play the piano
11. Write a children's book and get it published
12. Pre-plan my own funeral
13. Fly a helicopter
14. Throw a pre-Chemo Party (at the appropriate time)
15. Learn to sing Opera
16. Watch Andrea Bocelli sing in person
17. Break a Guinness world record
18. Go behind the scenes at a reputable zoo for the day
19. Listen to the Chorus at St Pauls Cathedral
20. Take a gondola in Venice
21. Learn to oil or acrylic paint
22. Take my son to Disney World, Florida
23. Take the ultimate photograph - a Stag Deer appearing out of the woods caught by the Sun's rays beaming down on him - seen this twice and never had the camera with me
24. Accept my cancer diagnosis and be at peace with it
